I had bunion foot surgery at the end of April, a week later after the surgery I tried to break a fall from reaching out to grab the phone and ended up landing on the bad foot at that time I didn’t think I caused any damage to the foot. Five weeks after the surgery, I had to make an emergency trip to L.A. to care for my serious ill mom. Before leaving for my trip I had a visit with my doctor just to make sure everything was on the right track. After some X-rays the doctor informed me that the screw had popped up and the bone shifted. It was my worse nightmare, I don't know what to think at that moment. The doctor told me that at this point there wasn’t much she can do for me, except to be very careful by not causing more damage, right away she put me in a big boot and said no pressure should be used on that foot, it means that I will be heel walking and must elevate my foot as much as I can.
On the way to L.A. knowing that going to bathroom will be a hustle, I dehydrated myself at the airport and on the plane by not drinking anything. That was not too smart. Once I land in LA, I got a really bad U.T.I. on top of my miserable foot ache. I felt like dying without medical treatment. Luckily I had an acupuncturist' daughter, so she stepped in to treat me intensively for those problems. Thank God, in 2 days most my U.T.I. symptoms were gone and I was getting better.
I was too busy and worry for mom's condition, no time to rest my bad foot during these whole time in LA. My daughter gave me about seven to eight treatments during my stayed. When I returned to Maui, the next day I went to follow up with my physician. We all expecting the worse out come because I thought I must have re-fracture my bad foot, or by standing all day long on the foot with little elevation. Took by surprise with the new x-ray, the doctor asked me, “how did you do it?” She told me, it was a miracle that the shifted bone fell back into the right position and seems to be healing properly.
I was so happy that I didn’t have to have re-surgery as the doctor told me when I in L.A. I can't bear to think the pain I have to go through again if I had to re-operated.
I believed acupuncture did a big contribution to my process of healing. If I have known, I would stay a little longer to get more acupuncture, and maybe my foot will probably heal even more.
I am so proud and glad that I had an acupuncturist in the family that I can always count on.Therefore, I highly recommend to everyone to try alternative medical treatment when western medical treatment is not available.
